Frans de Waal lecture: War & Peace among the primates

On Wednesday 10 June, primatologist and ethologist Prof. Frans de Waal held a lecture at Maastricht University entitled ‘War & Peace among the primates’. The lecture took taking place as part of theEugène Dubois rotating Chair, which was appointed to prof. De Waal in October 2014.

When people do evil things, we call them animals, but if people act altruistically, we attribute this to our noble human morality, calling them human. Both sides of human nature are tied to our biology. This theme of the duality of human nature was explored by looking at our two closest primate relatives: the chimpanzee and the bonobo.

The lecture was organised by Studium Generale in cooperation with the Eugène Dubois Foundation.
